Drumming for Kirtan - Patrick Richey

Folk and Classical Drumming of India , Saturday, 2:30-4:00 p.m., $20 suggested donation.
Come and learn tabla, mridanga, dholak, and khartal folk rhythms that accompany kirtan and indian classical music. We will focus on introductory techniques and exercises to develop the ability to effectively accompany kirtan and other indian groove-based music.
Instruments are available for purchase or bring your own drum. All are welcome!

Patrick Richey travels the globe performing kirtan and Indian classical music on tabla, collaborating with musicians from India, Morocco and everywhere in between. He received his M.A. degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of California, Santa Cruz. His teaching philosophy is rooted in the idea that music is an essential personal and communal expression, and aims to make it accessible and fun for all!
