Sanskrit Classes
We offer two types of Sanskrit Classes
Sanskrit - Level 1
8 class series. Duration of each class: 2 hours
The objective of this 8 week beginners’ course is to introduce students to Sanskrit so that they can start reading / writing in Sanskrit and learn meaning of mantras.
Students will learn the following:
1. Script and pronunciation of all the alphabets (Devanagiri script)
2. Maatras – Vowel extensions that can be used with any consonants
3. Word formation
4. Some commonly used words in mantras and in yoga philosophy.
 
Sanskrit for Yoga & Kirtan
3 class series. Duration of each class: 2 hours
The objective of this 3 class series is to introduce Sanskrit to Yoga & Kirtan enthusiasts. This class series will cover the following:
1. History and Evolution of Sanskrit
2. Sanskrit and sacred sound
3. Healing power of Sanskrit words and mantras
4. Meanings and Pronounciation of 150 commonly used words in mantras and yoga philosophy.

These classes will be taught by Arvind Chittumalla, founder of Aanand Saagar. Arvind studied Sanskrit for a number of years in school and continues to pursue his interests even now. He leads meditation classes, chanting circles and yoga philosophy sessions at Aanand Saagar. During all these events he explains the background and meaning of Sanskrit words to his students and fellow participants. He has advised many yoga practitioners and instructors on Sanskrit.
