Puja

“Puja” means ritual or ceremony.  A puja has an overall group intention, and each person attending can also have their individual intention as well.

At Aanand Saagar, for example, a Hanuman puja has the intention to increase our devotion, spiritual strength and perseverance, and bring healing. So a person attending the puja can set their intention to help them heal an illness, or get through a difficult situation. Always, a puja is performed to benefit all beings.

During a puja we purify ourselves inwardly, and offer water, fire, flowers and sincere prayers from our hearts in the form of mantra and meditation.

We also offer and bless food during the ceremony to be shared. This is called “Prasad”.

The path of Yoga acknowledges every individual’s relationship to the Divine and every form of spiritual practice. Even though externally there are many Gods and Goddesses in form, the Truth is beyond all form. During puja, we unite with our hearts in the Heart of All-That-Is.
